Oh, How She Runs

Job 39:13-1813-18 “The ostrich flaps her wings futilely—
all those beautiful feathers, but useless!
She lays her eggs on the hard ground,
leaves them there in the dirt, exposed to the weather,
Not caring that they might get stepped on and cracked
or trampled by some wild animal.
She’s negligent with her young, as if they weren’t even hers.
She cares nothing about anything.
She wasn’t created very smart, that’s for sure,
wasn’t given her share of good sense.
But when she runs, oh, how she runs,
laughing, leaving horse and rider in the dust.
The Ostrich is beautiful and fast. That is her only claim to fame. If she were a female friend we would probably gossip about her. “Did you see how she neglected her kids leaving them home alone? She just doesn’t seem to have any common sense.” She would certainly be found wanting when compared with other women. We would look right past her beauty to her nurturing flaws. We might even feel quite smug when compared with her. “She might be better looking than me but boy is she dumb.”
But God commends the ostrich. While he points out her negatives He commends her strengths. “But when she runs, oh, how she runs, laughing, leaving horse and rider in the dust.” She has a strength that makes her valuable, commendable and mentioned by God almighty. She is beautiful. She can run – fast!
We all have some flaws. The problem is that we focus on the flaws till we see nothing but the flaws. We concentrate on working on the flaws – some which are not in our power to change. We put all our energy into flaw renovation to the neglect of our strengths. We are not appreciating our strengths or moving in our strengths because our focus is on the weaknesses.
What might happen if we focused on our strengths, appreciated our strengths, embraced and celebrated our strengths? Like the ostrich I think we would be much happier – laughing as we run leaving the horse and rider in the dust.

Angela,
I just wanted to share with you a show I saw on tv this morning. I normally watch Joyce Meyer every morning while I’m getting ready for the day and today’s show touched upon the subject that was discussed at Family Enchrichment Week and that is, How to Succed at being yourself. She gave great examples, as you did in your teachings at being your own person, stating that we are unique, one of a kind, remarkable in our own way and we should not forget that. Joyce also stated that we need to stop comparing ourselves to others and start being our true self. She also offered one of her great books entitled: “How to Succeed at being Yourself.” It sounds like a really good book to read. Her show the rest of the week is dedicated to provding information on how to succeed at being yourself, I highly recommend watching it. It does come on rather early 6:00am on the Family Channel, but you can also watch it on her website at Joyce Meyer.org. Thank you and have a blessed day. Liddy
