Love in the Dining Room - The Powerful Choleric Part 5

Published by Angela | Filed under Uncategorized, Personalities, Relationships

When it comes to “Love in the Dining Room” the Purposeful, Powerful Choleric is not the most romantic creature on the planet.  She is a focused, self-reliant, confident, risktaking goal setter.  Being a hard worker, love in the dining room doesn’t seem to be very productive so they have difficulty taking time to slow down for any relationships but even more so with a God who cannot be seen.

While the Choleric can stay focused better than the other personalities, the list of things to do keeps naggingly calling their name.  Their desire for acheivement makes it easier for them to read through the Bible than the Playful Sanguine but they look for quick applications that they can put into practice now.  Being disciplined they can stay at the discipline of devotions but it’s not always about the relationship but their accomplishment and checking it off of their list.

Fortunately, the Purposeful Choleric wants to grow, change and get better at whatever they do and who they are.  They hate the status quo.  Having time with God is a way to achieve their goal of change and growth. This desire will motivate them to spend time with God but they always have to fight the call to production.

The powerful Choleric leader is especially interested in the powerful personalities of the Bible.  They especially enjoy learning about the prophets, kings and Apostles and gleaning information for their own leadership.  Their favorite verses usually have something to do with power and their prayers are asking God to move and “get it done” mightily.  The Apostle Paul may be their favorite character or David  or Daniel of the Old Testament.  These men were mover and shakers like the Powerful Choleric.

The Purposful Choleric may also be involved in intercessory prayer.  They are passionate and driven to change the status quo and what better way to do that than in prayer?  Not being able to control the circumstances around them, they go to the one person who can, God.  They make declarations and proclamations in prayer with great faith.  Unfortunately, the Choleric also has the trait that when they know or sense that they can’t win at something they will not enter the frey.  This can allow them to get discouraged or disillusioned with prayer if its not answered quickly enough since they want everything NOW!  This leads us to the next spiritual challenge for them — surrendering to God’s timing and control.

Surrender is the Powerful Choleric’s greatest challenge.  They have built in radar for the big picture and what needs to be   done to make it happen.  They have a sense of what is “right” for a situation.  They are usually “right” even if their attitude stinks.  They need to be in control so everything will be all right.  This keeps them in the drivers seat in life and God in the back seat for the ride.  Picturing God in the drivers seat might help them to surrender control to His all knowing, all powerful, all wise counsel and leadership.  Surrendered and empowered by the Holy Spirit, the Cholerics can be very effective for the Kingdom.

Love in the dining room, communion with God, needs to be their number one priority in life.  It’s  while they are in intimate communion with God that they get in touch with His heartbeat and can feel His passion which becomes their marching orders.  They need to take a lesson from their opposite, the Phlegmatic, and remember that doing comes out of “being.”  We cannot give what we do not have.  We cannot take people where we have not been and being at the feet of Jesus is the best place to be.
