I am Unique

Published by Angela | Filed under Identity in Christ, Self-Worth

The dictionary tells us that Unique means “having no equal or equivalent.”  I’ve guess I’ve never really thought about having no equal.  There has always seemed to be someone who exceeded me in one way or another to make me feel inferior.  But “having no equal” seems pretty special. It gives me a positive outlook on myself that actually inspires and motivates me to be my very best.

Being unique is also described as “’the embodiment of unique characteristics; remarkable.  Have you ever thought of yourself as remarkable?  Amazing, significant, incredible, outstanding and extraordinary are a few of the adjectives used to describe remarkable.  Being unique is better than I ever imagined.

Since I am unique and there is no one exactly like me on the planet I am…

·        Unparalleled

·        Incomparable

·        Remarkable

·        Exceptional

 ·        Irreplaceable

·        Matchless and

·        Distinctive    Give those words a few minutes of meditation and see what they do for you.

The next time you are tempted to be down on yourself  sing this song … Incomparable, that’s what you are – unforgettable (you know the tune).  Yes, that’s you.  Square your shoulders back, put your head up high.  You really are a divine design – one of a kind. No matter what your circumstances or what anyone may say – you are exceptional, remarkable and Unique.

I’ve never thought of myself as remarkable but how can I argue with the dictionary. Thanks for opening my eyes to a new perception of myself.

I think most of us are very hard or negative about ourselves. While I’m sure there are areas that need improvement or growth we tend to fixate on those areas to the exclusion of all the great things about ourselves. Keep focusing on the positive.

It’s great to find someone who has come upon the same conclusion I finally found in my “old” age. After years of trying to measure up to everyone else’s expectations and desires for my life, I recently concluded that I am special to Him so I’m okay the way I am. If Jesus is truly inside us and if we give Him control, we are perfect in His sight. I try every day to become a better person for Him, to listen for His voice, and to follow His plan for my life. I’ve found that even if I look back on my past, all of my “mistakes” are really part of His plan and made me what I am today–a child of the living Lord. I think too many times we dwell on the past and mistakes we have made. Then we concentrate on the future and what is coming so we can control it. I’ve finally learned that He is the great “I am.” He is in the moment, each and every moment we live. So I try not to look back or forward but dwell on Him right this moment. Just Love Him!

    Janet,
You are right about us looking back to the past or forward to the future and missing the present moments. Remembering that God is Jehovah - I Am that I Am does implore us to live in the moment. I love what you said — “He is in the moment, each and every moment.” Praise God for the moments. Keep living accepted in the Beloved each and every moment.

Wow! That means all the “good works” that God ordained for us to do individually…only we can do them. Certainly He will use someone else if we choose to not obey but only He knows the incomparable, remarkable, exceptional, irreplaceable, matchless, and distinctive “twist” that each of us can add to His purpose for our lives. That gives such a deeper revelation to: I will praise thee;for I am fearfully and wonderfully made…About 9 years ago when when I was in Okinawa, I was struggling with a huge esteem deficit. My pastor’s wife told me that I was fearfully and wonderfully made and that I needed to have God esteem not self-esteem; her homework for me was to repeat the scripture verse daily while looking into a mirrior. That was very tough with many a shed tear but God’s word began to take root. Just now as I was refelecting on the attributes of my uniqueness in Christ, I feel as though God has given me the second part to that homework assignment, and that is to “Praise Him” for I am fearfully and wonderfully made! I wish I could remember the words to the praise & worship song “Only a God Like You” because that is what is welling up in my spirit right now.

Robin - I like how you applied the truth about being unique. Praise the Lord that you received the second part to your homework assignment. Interesting because my next blog will be on being “fearfully and wonderfully made.” Check it out.

When I go outside, I have to confess it’s hard for me to take in all the beauty that I see with my eyes, in Jesus I am more beautiful in his eyes. May he quiet me so I can hear his whispers of his truth!

Donna, what a deep insight. Thank you for enriching us with your perception. I too love nature and find it breathtaking as it reflects the glory of God. However, we are more glorious than any and all of nature because we not only reflect his glory but house the glory of God. Praise God!
